Mission

HISTORY
The Graduate Student Council (GSC) was established in 1968 to assure formal avenues of communication between representatives of graduate students and both the dean of the Toulouse School of Graduate Studies and the University Graduate Council.

The GSC mission is to facilitate and promote the transition from graduate student to professional by providing opportunities within the Graduate Student Council and the University of North Texas for professional growth, development and advancement. In addition, the GSC seeks to help graduate students navigate the obstacles, rewards, challenges and support networks of academic life.

OBJECTIVES

  • To represent graduate students’ needs and concerns to administration and the university at large.

  • To communicate information to graduate students via monthly meetings regarding important issues affecting the graduate student body and other events via email and other sources.

  • To communicate the interest of graduate students to the faculty, staff and administration of the university by service on several university governing committees.

  • To inform graduate students about grants, fellowships, and scholarships available to them.

  • To support student advocacy, information dissemination, community building and self-governance.

  • To continue development and implementation of a university-wide New Graduate Student Orientation in cooperation with the Graduate School.

  • To create quality name recognition of the University of North Texas and improve the acceptance of the degrees received by UNT’s graduate students.
