Committees

GSC members sit on a variety of university committees. Below is a list of special committee appointments as well as recurring committee appointments.

SPECIAL COMMITTEE APPOINTMENTS

  • Presidential Search Advisory Committee (choosing Dr. Bataille)
  • Presidential Inauguration Committee (implementing Dr. Bataille’s Inauguration) Student Party Subcommittee
  • Doctoral Hooding Ceremony Committee
  • Strategic Plan Committee (development of Strategic Plan)
  • UNT Design Review Committee (New UNT branding, logo, and identity)
  • QEP Advisory Committee (implementation of QEP on campus)

RECURRING COMMITTEE APPOINTMENTS - EXTERNAL

  • Eagle’s Nest 
    This committee is responsible for distributing money raised by student service fees to student organizations for activities arranged in and around the student union.

  • Faculty Senate Representative
    The Faculty Senate decides academic policy (except tenure and review policy) for the University, acting with regard to the requests and needs of the specific departments, divisions, schools and colleges, to the advice of the President of the University, and to the regulations of the Board of Regents of the University of North Texas and the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board.

  • Graduate Appeal Committee
    This committee listens to petitions from graduate students concerning grade appeals, degree timeline appeals, etc. This committee meets only when called, usually once a semester.

  • Graduate Council 
    The Graduate Council is involved in long-term planning and management of the graduate school.

  • Information Resource Council 
    The IRC is an advisory and oversight body created to foster communication and cooperation between and among UNT information resources providers and users.

  • Student Senate Representative  
    The Student Senate is a part of the Student Government Association and is the major governing organization for the student body as a whole. They are responsible for everything from Homecoming to lobbying for changes in the grading policy.

  • Student Services Fee Committee
    The Student Services Fees Committee makes a recommendation to the University about how the funds raised by student use fees should be distributed. Student organizations that receive part, or all, of their funds from student fees include the Athletic Department, the Student Government Association, the Graduate Student Council, and the Marching Band.

  • Union Board of Directors  
    The Union Board of Directors controls events in and around the student union building, including events in the Lyceum.

  • University Library Committee  
    The Library Committee provides guidance to the Dean of Libraries in allocating resources to the different subject areas of the library. For example, the committee approves the overall operating budget and approved the addition of a Starbuck kiosk in Willis library.

  • University Planning Council 
    The University Planning Council serves as a central group to advise the President of the University.

  • University Scholarships Committee
    The University Scholarships Committee meets once a year to award scholarships to students from UNT funds.           

RECURRING COMMITTEE APPOINTMENTS - INTERNAL

  • Alpha Epsilon Lambda 
    Alpha Epsilon Lambda is a non-profit organization with the specific objective of recognizing the academic excellence and leadership accomplishments of the graduate and professional school students. UNT was the 5th (or Epsilon) chapter formed of this prestigious group. Work is underway to reform and activate the society.

  • New Graduate Student Orientation Committee
    This committee organizes the official New Graduate Student Orientation held the Thursday before every long semester begins.

  • Socials Committee
    The Socials Committee is responsible for organizing social, recreational, and networking events for GSC members as needed.

  • Travel Grants Committee
    The Travel Grants Committee awards money donated by various student organizations and the Graduate School to students to pay for travel to conferences and presentations related to the student's schooling.

  • Website Committee
    The Website Committee works with the GSC Webmaster to update or add features to the GSC website.

  • Who’s Who / Honors Day Committee
    The Who's Who/Honors Committee submits students for membership consideration to the Who's Who and other honor organizations. The committee only meets once or twice a year to consider nominations.

  • Workshop Committee
    The Workshop Committee works to use Eagle’s Nest funding to facilitate workshops of interest to graduate students.
